Tazewell County Veterans Assistance Commission Governors Report.
The Veterans Assistance Commission is an agency that is operated by and for veterans. The commission provides aid to those indigent veterans and their families residing in Tazewell County, who may qualify for assistance.

The Veterans Assistance Commission can provide referral assistance in filing claims to the Veterans Administration for such benefits as:

  • Service connected compensation
  • Education Benefits
  • Insurance Conversion
  • Widow’s Pension Benefits
  • Non service connected pensions
  • Burial information and forms

The Veterans Assistance Commission also provides services to the Veteran and his family in applying to the proper State or Federal agencies for the purpose of obtaining benefits for:

  • Employment
  • Counseling
  • Local food pantry
  • Indigent burial assistance if qualified
  • Rental Assistance (must meet income guidelines)
    • Honorably discharged copy of DD 214
    • Tazewell County resident – 6 months
    • Must already have residence and landlord’s name.
